What is Orthopedic Treatment and Prosthetics?

Dental prosthetics involves replacing damaged or missing teeth with artificial constructions. Modern orthopedics allows us to restore a single tooth, a severe tooth deficit, or complete edentulism (complete lack of teeth).

When selecting a treatment method, the doctor evaluates the overall condition of the oral cavity, the anatomical features of the jaws, the chewing load, and your aesthetic requirements.

Main Stages of Prosthetics

* Consultation and Digital Planning: Treatment begins with a consultation. The doctor determines the necessary examinations, including the use of 3D tomography. Based on diagnostics, we examine the jaw bone tissue and the condition of adjacent teeth, and plan the type of prosthetics. Together with the patient, we discuss the treatment stages, timeline, and cost.

* Preparation and Impression Taking: If necessary, supporting teeth are treated or prepared. Using digital or classic methods, we take precise impressions that are sent to the laboratory.

* Fitting and Fixation: Before cementing the finished construction in the oral cavity, we verify its fit, color, bite, and aesthetic parameters, after which it is permanently fixed.

Types of Prostheses and Their Features

Prosthetics is divided into several main directions based on the patient's clinical condition:

1. Fixed (Non-removable) Prostheses

* Crowns and Bridges: Used when a large part of a tooth is damaged or one/several teeth are missing. We use metal-ceramic as well as highly aesthetic zirconia and press-ceramic (E-Max) crowns.

* Veneers: Thin ceramic plates designed to perfectly fix the aesthetic appearance of front teeth.

2. Removable Prostheses

* Partial and Complete Removable Prostheses: Used in cases of significant or complete tooth loss. Modern materials ensure maximum comfort, stability, and a natural look (including separate upper or lower jaw removable dentures).

* Clasp (Bügel) Prostheses: Removable constructions mounted on a metal frame that evenly distribute weight between remaining teeth and gums.

3. Implant-Supported Prostheses

* The pinnacle of modern dentistry — when a removable or fixed bridge is secured directly onto dental implants, providing absolute stability and the feel of natural teeth.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between removable and fixed dental restorations?

Answer: Fixed restorations (crowns, bridges, zirconia restorations, and veneers) are securely attached to teeth or implants and cannot be removed by the patient. Removable dentures are used when many or all teeth are missing. Patients can remove them themselves for cleaning.

How long does it take to make a dental prosthesis?

Answer: The production time depends on the complexity and type of restoration. Thanks to digital scanning and our in-house dental laboratory, the process is streamlined and takes an average of 3 to 7 working days.

Is the prosthetic treatment procedure painful?

Answer: The procedure is completely painless. Preparation and impression-taking or scanning are performed under modern, safe local anaesthesia. You will not feel any discomfort during the procedure.

Which material is better — metal ceramic or zirconia ceramic?

Answer: Zirconia ceramic offers excellent aesthetics, natural translucency, strength, and full biocompatibility: it does not cause allergic reactions or darkening of the gums. Metal ceramic is a more affordable alternative, but it does not match zirconia ceramic in aesthetics or light transmission.

How should I care for my dental prosthesis to help it last?

Answer: Fixed restorations (crowns and bridges) require the same daily care as natural teeth: brushing with a toothbrush and toothpaste, flossing, and using a water flosser. Removable dentures should be cleaned with specialised denture-cleaning tablets and brushes. Professional dental cleaning and routine check-ups twice a year are also important.
